Long Valley Basketball Association Brand Guidelines
This document defines how the Long Valley Basketball Association presents itself — the logo, the colors, the fonts, and the rules for putting them together.
How to use this document
Every color chip and specification below can be clicked to copy its value to your clipboard. The contrast checker in section 2 lets you test any two palette colors against accessibility standards before you use them together. To produce a paper or PDF copy, use the button in the sidebar.
Section 1
The logo
The logo is a one-color wolf head paired with a three-line stacked wordmark. It should appear on all official materials.
Origin
The current logo was derived from the mark used on the previous iteration of longvalleybasketball.com. The wolf head was bitmap traced from that original and paired with a newly set wordmark.
Previous logo
Source of the traced wolf head.
Current logo
Traced wolf head with the wordmark set in Tinos Bold.
Construction
The wordmark is set to the following specification. All positions are whole pixels on a whole-pixel canvas. These values are recorded so the logo can be rebuilt or extended consistently — they are not settings to be re-entered for everyday use, since the supplied logo files should always be used instead.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Typeface | Tinos — the free, open source equivalent of Times New Roman |
| Style | Bold 700 |
| Size | 72 pt (96 px) |
| Line spacing | 115.2 px (1.2 × 96) |
| Justification | Left |
| Color | #023051 |
| Vertical alignment | Wolf head and text block centered to each other, offset 0.00 px |
| Horizontal gap | 14 px from the right edge of the wolf head to the start of the text block |
| Canvas | 1422 × 420 px |
Color versions
The logo is a single-color mark. It is rendered in Navy #023051 by default, reversed to white on dark backgrounds, and may be rendered in solid black only where color reproduction is unavailable.
Never place the Navy logo on Court Red, and never place the reversed logo on Columbia Blue — neither pairing carries enough contrast to hold the mark.
Misuse
The following are not permitted under any circumstances.
| Do not recolor | The logo appears in Navy, reversed white, or solid black. No other color, no gradients, no team-specific variants. |
| Do not stretch or condense | Scale proportionally. Hold Shift when resizing in Word, docs, Canva, etc. |
| Do not rebuild the wordmark | Do not re-type the text in another font, re-space it, or set it on one line. Use the supplied files. |
| Do not add effects | No drop shadows, outlines, glows, bevels, or strokes. |
| Do not place on busy imagery | On photographs, place the reversed logo over a solid Navy panel rather than directly on the image. |
Section 2
Color
Five colors, each with a defined job. The palette is small on purpose: fewer choices produce more consistent materials when many different people are making them.
The Navy is taken directly from the WMCHS website, and the logo is rendered in that same value to match. The remaining four colors were selected around it.
The color palette is designed to mimic WMCHS while remaining aesthetically pleasing, providing flexibility and maximizing digital readability.
The palette
Click any chip to copy its HEX value, or click an individual line to copy that value.
CMYK values are unmanaged conversions provided for reference. Confirm final CMYK against the Pantone Color Bridge with your printer. Columbia Blue and Court Red are exact Pantone matches; Navy and Ink are close matches and should be confirmed against a physical swatch book before any large print or apparel run.
Contrast
Every color combination used for text must meet WCAG 2.1 AA: a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for body text, or 3:1 for large text (24 px and above, or 19 px bold) and interface components. Check any pairing before using it.
Reference values
Approved and prohibited pairings
Two standing rules
Columbia Blue is never a text color on Paper or white. At 1.39:1 it is effectively invisible. It is a fill and panel color: backgrounds, callouts, table stripes, and shapes on dark surfaces. It is also never used for thin rules, small icons, or chart lines on light backgrounds.
Court Red never sits directly on Navy. At 2.31:1 the pairing fails badly. On dark surfaces, red must carry a white keyline of at least 3 px, or be replaced with white or Columbia Blue.
Section 3
Fonts
Two fonts, both free and open source through Google Fonts, plus whatever block alphabet our apparel decorator uses for jerseys.
Families
Display · Tinos Bold 700
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz 0123456789
Tinos carries the logo wordmark, page titles, and section headings. It is the open source equivalent of Times New Roman and was adopted from the original LVBA logo.
Text and interface · Public Sans
abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz 0123456789
Public Sans is the workhorse: body copy, headings below section level, buttons, navigation, labels, schedules, and captions. It is a fork of Libre Franklin maintained by the US Web Design System and built to meet federal accessibility requirements, which makes it dependable at small sizes.
Jerseys and apparel
Do not specify a web font for uniforms. Apparel decorators use their own block alphabets, and forcing an outside font through that process produces poor results at added cost. Specify “vendor’s standard block athletic numerals, single color” and supply the Pantone.
Type scale
| Function | Face | Weight | Size |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display, page titles | Tinos | Bold 700 | 38–60 px |
| Section headings | Tinos | Bold 700 | 28–40 px |
| Subheadings | Public Sans | SemiBold 600 | 21 px |
| Eyebrows, labels | Public Sans | Bold 700 | 12.5 px, uppercase, tracked |
| Lead paragraph | Public Sans | Regular 400 | 18.5 px / 1.6 |
| Body copy | Public Sans | Regular 400 | 16 px / 1.65 |
| Buttons, interface | Public Sans | SemiBold 600 | 14.5 px |
| Captions, fine print | Public Sans | Regular 400 | 14 px minimum |
| Pull quotes | Tinos | Italic 400 | 22 px |
Never set body text below 14 px on screen. Line length should sit between 55 and 75 characters.
Fallback stacks
Most association materials are made in Word, Google Docs, or an email client where the brand fonts are not installed. Both fallbacks below are metric-compatible substitutes, so documents will not reflow when a font is missing.
| Display | Tinos, "Times New Roman", Times, serif |
| Text and interface | "Public Sans", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif |
| Technical values | "IBM Plex Mono", "Courier New", Courier, monospace |

Applications

Buttons and calls to action
On Paper
Primary 5.88:1 · Secondary 13.6:1 · Outline 12.8:1 · Link 5.54:1 — all pass AA.
On Navy
The red button carries a 3 px white keyline. Every other element reads at 9.19:1 or better.

Assets & governance
File formats
| Use | Format |
|---|---|
| Print, embroidery, signage, vendors | lvba-logo-outlined.svg — text converted to outlines, renders identically everywhere |
| Editing, rebuilding, resetting the wordmark | lvba-logo-text.svg — live text, requires Tinos installed |
| Web, email, social, documents | Generally, PNG with transparent background; SVG should be used as appropriate to reduce image quality degradation due to varying screen sizes |
| Favicons, app icons, small squares | LVBA monogram — Tinos Bold 700, LV over BA, white on Navy. The wolf head carries too much interior detail to hold below roughly 128 px. |
Working with vendors
Specify color by Pantone or HEX number only, never by name. A vendor working from the name alone will result in incorrect colors. Always supply PMS 290 C or #B9D9EB.
Photography
Favor action and candid sideline shots over posed team lines. Represent the full range of ages, abilities, and divisions the association serves. Follow the association’s consent policy for photographing minors, and keep a record of which families have declined.
